This meryenda (snack) recipe is a must-know for all moms. It's something kids will really love; plus it's so easy to do.

Let's make some grilled cheese!
Making grilled cheese is something you can do in a pan. You don't have a waffle press or panini maker. With a little patience and ingenuity, you can make a tasty grilled cheese sandwich by employing the aid of your ever-reliable cooking pan.
The bread
There are a lot of breads to choose from in making grilled cheese. There's the French breads, soft wheat bread, loaves, Ciabatta bread, the baguette; and the list goes on. For this very simple recipe, I went with what I normally buy in the stores - the good 'ole wheat bread.
The cheese
As for the cheese, I bought President's processed cheddar cheese slices. I don't have a cheese cutter that'll ensure a perfect cut. I suppose this is the right choice of cheese for me. Plus, they melt very fast.

Other ingredients
Other ingredients are up to you. If you are fond of meats, you can add ham, bacon; or in my case, spam. You can also add mushrooms, onions and other delightful fillings in your bread. But... that should call for a different post. For now, we are sticking with the basic.

No butter; no mayo. I try to avoid unnecessary fats in my system. While butter and mayo will definitely add a lot of flavor into my sandwich, I am begging them off. There are other recipes I can put them in. Meanwhile, if you want to add more flavor into your grilled cheese, go ahead and give it a thin whip.
Mustard is also optional.
Then, we start grilling!
Steps in making grilled cheese in a pan:
1. Heat up the pan. (No oil necessary.)

2. While the pan heats up, prepare the cheese sandwich for grilling. (Cheese slice in between 2 slices of loaf bread)

3. Grill that sandwich.

4. Flip the sandwich to the other side. Repeat step #3.

5. Let it cool for a bit. Then, munch on it!

Just a quick note before I end this simple grilled cheese recipe. Some people like making grilled cheese under low heat so the cheese would melt nicely, warm the other ingredient filled and NOT burn the bread. In my case, I am grilling under high heat since the cheese I'm using is quick melt, loaf breads are really thin and there is no other ingredient to warm. :) It's up to you how high or low you prefer you heat. At least, you get the drift on how to make grilled cheese with the humble pan.

Press the sandwich against the pan using a spatula, preferably rubber.
You want to really press on it to flatten the bread while it grills against the pan.
4. Flip the sandwich to the other side. Repeat step #3.
5. Let it cool for a bit. Then, munch on it!
