Thanksgiving is next week which means many pumpkin pies will be made! This year I decided to try out an old fashioned recipe and it was delicious! Making pumpkin pie from scratch is so easy and everyone will love you for making it! I love using vintage recipe books, the recipes are always so delicious and surprisingly easy. The recipe book I am using today is called Philco Electric Recipe book.
Pre-heat oven to 475.
Pie Crust:
- 2 cups flour, sifted
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 6-8 tbsp. water
SIFT flour and salt into a bowl. Add shortening, cut in with a pastry blender. Stir in water.
ROLL dough on a floured board, add to 9 inch pie dish.
Pumpkin Pie Filling:
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup white sugar
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. pumpkin spices
- 1 & 3/4 cups pumpkin puree
- 2 eggs
- 1 & 1/4 cups milk
- 1/4 cup cream
- 1 tbsp. melted butter
- 2 tbsp. molasses
MIX sugar and spices. Add in pumpkin, beat in eggs, milk, cream, melted butter and molasses.
POUR into unbaked pie shell.
BAKE 35-45 minutes. Let cool completely before cutting.
